It has been quite a while since I’ve written a column to the citizens of Powell. It is amazing to me how the time zips by.
Summer is over and I have not fished enough rivers. I did manage to enjoy our beautiful golf course several times. In the meantime, the city staff continues to work on ways to achieve Powell’s larger long-term goals, not an easy task.
In that vein, I’m happy to talk about a fun topic, a splash pad in Powell. At the time we removed the froggy pond from Homesteader Park, we added a splash pad to our list of important projects to accomplish, and have struggled to find the money for what we think is a much-needed project. Continued research has us applying for a 50-50 grant which would allow us to build a splash pad where the frog pond once resided. The cost of the splashpad is estimated to be around $500,000. With support from this grant a splashpad could become a reality.
We could use a little help from the citizens of Powell. Community input is one of the criteria for the grant. We have posted a survey on the City of Powell’s website and Facebook page, and hope folks will take a moment to fill it out. The survey only contains six questions so it won’t take you much time. It can be found at cityofpowell.com or City of Powell on Facebook.
