May happenings at the Powell Library

Posted

Park County libraries are busy this month. The Powell Library has a May calendar overflowing with fun activities for all ages.

We will be out in the community at the Heart Mountain Children’s Festival (May 14), Home & Garden Show in Cody (May 20-21) and at the John Wesley Powell Days (May 20-21).

Stop by the Powell Library Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for Tech Help. Bring your device and get help with your tech questions.

Come to the Powell Library in May to listen to Wyoming author Alan O’Hashi discuss his memoir “Beyond Heart Mountain.” Please contact the library for exact date and time. O’Hashi’s book recounts his life growing up as an Asian American in Wyoming.

Join us on Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. for a Park County Weed & Pest presentation. Mary McKinney, assistant supervisor with Park County Weed and Pest District, will be at the library to discuss weeds and pests on your land and what to do about it.

Teen activities are back at the Powell Library. Teens are encouraged to join us Monday through Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and Friday at 1 p.m. for activities and fun.

Monday is Craft Day and Tuesday is Board Games.

Wednesday is Chat with Rachyl. Stop by and say hello to our new YA Librarian, Rachyl.

Thursday is Reading Time. This month Rachyl will be reading from the book “I Must Betray You.”

Teens can also have fun on May 14 for Cooking and a Movie and on May 20 for a Nature Conservancy Program.

For the kids, join Ms. Renee at Baby and Toddler Time every Monday and Thursday from 10:30-11 a.m. Bring the little ones for nursery rhymes, songs, play and early literacy activities. Ms. Renee does a fabulous Storytime every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:30-11 a.m. Stop by for wonderful stories, movement, craft and fun.

Kids from first to fifth grade are invited to sign up to join our Afterschool Book Club. Just stop by the children’s desk and sign up to be a part of this fun book club. Kids can also sign up for Read to a Dog on Wednesday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m.

Summer Reading starts at all Park County libraries on June 1. This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities.

Do you want to help support the library and help create a new Powell Library?

Please consider joining the Park County Library Foundation. We are looking for Powell representation. The foundation only meets a few times a year. We can even meet in the Powell Library. If you’re interested in learning more and want to help strengthen the library, contact Karen Horner: 527-1881.

As a reminder, all Park County libraries will be closed Saturday, May 28 and Monday, May 30 in remembrance for Memorial Day.

(Karen Horner is the executive director of the Park County Library System.)
