God came calling for a flower gardener early on Feb. 10, 2020.

Margaret was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Powell. She was the daughter of Henry H. and Jennie (Kilgore) Sedwick. She was a proud alumnus of Powell High School, graduating with the class of 1940. She attended 70 years in a row without missing a PHS alumni event.

She entered nurses training at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Billings, Montana, under the Cadet Nursing Program, graduating in 1945. She was proud of being a nurse, first as an office nurse with Dr. Harold Colston and Dr. Lowell Kattenhorn in Powell. She later nursed at the War Memorial Hospital, now Powell Valley Healthcare for a short time.

She married Francis L. (Fritz) Scranton May 20, 1946, in Billings. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage before he passed away in 1988. They had two children, Francis (Fran) M. Scranton of Worland and an infant daughter, Melodee J. Scranton (deceased).

They established many businesses in Powell. “Grandpapa’s” will be most notably remembered as the disco dance venue in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

She loved to be on the go. Some of the places she visited were Europe, Africa, the Soviet Union, and the Caribbean. Her favorite place to photograph was Yellowstone Park with Artelle and Donnie Sedwick and Neil and Vernice Harrison. She enjoyed movie night with treats at Mark and Sandee Kitchen’s home.

Her hobbies were many with a focus on flowers and having a beautiful yard both at her country home and in town. She was a member of the Shoshone Rock Club, Powell Valley Healthcare Volunteer Auxiliary, DAR Genealogy Club, Homesteader Museum, as well as traveling many times with the NWC college group that went overseas.

Preceding her in death were her husband Fritz, infant daughter Melodee, brother Donald F. Sedwick, sister-in-law Artelle Sedwick, and her parents Henry and Jenny Sedwick.

Left to share her memory are son Fran and Diana Scranton of Worland; granddaughters, Amelinda A. Olson, (Kevin) Butte, Montana, Rani J. Scranton (Matthew Maya), Medford, Oregon; and of course her great-grandson, Henry Otis Maya. Many loving nieces and nephews talk of her influence with landscaping, travel, and mentoring.

Interment of her ashes will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in mid-summer 2020. The family suggests memorials be made to the Homesteader Museum, Northwest College Foundation or any charity of one’s choosing. Just planting a flower will bring you a warm smile from family and friends!
