Loeffen resigns as PHS girls’ head soccer coach

Most coaches did not have as difficult of a situation as Panther girls’ soccer coach Kaitlin Loeffen had when she was hired two years ago up until her resignation following the conclusion of the spring season.

Loeffen was set to take over the Panthers in the spring of 2020 but had her first season canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In her first season of actually being at the helm, Loeffen and the Panthers finished with one win, but showed flashes of improvement this previous season, finishing with a record of 4-10-1.

“My decision did not come easily and I continue to feel a rollercoaster of emotions and expect to for quite some time, but ultimately came down to time,” Loeffen said.

Loeffen said that the decision to resign came amid the recognition that the time she spent coaching took away from her role as a wife, mother and teacher.

She said that with her son recently turning 1 year old she reflected on the time missed with him that she spent dedicated to soccer.

“I have learned that coaching is challenging. Those that do it right must dedicate a lot of time into their program — strategizing, scouting, scheduling, practicing and playing,” Loeffen said.

With her departure from the program the Panthers will likely be turning to a whole new coaching staff starting next year.

Loeffen is hoping the coaching staff has a fresh start with a group that shares the same coaching philosophy, vision and dedication to the team.

What is the thing that Loeffen will miss the most about the position?

“Relationships,” Loeffen said. “I feel that many of the girls and I connected on a level greater than teacher-student and/or coach-athlete. Many became an extension of my family and I hope to continue to support them in the stands in years to come.”

Loeffen said that this is not the end of her coaching career, but currently she wants to take the time to focus on her family and enjoy time with her son without feeling torn deciding where to dedicate her time.
