Local nonprofits participating in WyoGives fundraising event

Three Park County organizations — Northwest Wyoming Family Planning, Yellowstone County Assistance Network and Friends of a Legacy — are among 132 nonprofits participating in a statewide 24-hour online giving event on Wednesday.

WyoGives, an initiative of the Wyoming Nonprofit Network, is intended “to bring the state together as one community to raise money and awareness for Wyoming’s nonprofits.”

Individuals can search for and donate to their favorite causes on the WyoGives.org website. The John P. Ellbogen Foundation is providing a match for all participating nonprofits and some organizations also have additional matches.

Friends of a Legacy (FOAL) — a group that supports the wild horses in the McCullough Peaks area — plans to use the funds it raises to enhance habitat in the herd management area. Specifically, FOAL wants to repair reservoirs to “balance grazing pressure over the high desert range during the drier months.” The reservoirs will serve “all the flora and fauna” in the area, the group said, including pronghorn, sage grouse and wild horses.

Any verified 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits headquartered in or providing services in Wyoming that are in good standing with the Secretary of State’s Office were allowed to participate in the WyoGives event. They had to pay a fee ranging from $50 to $200, depending in part on their operating budget.

From each donation, a 2.5% platform fee will go to GiveGab, which is providing the WyoGives’ site’s technology, with a 2.2% fee (plus 30 cents) added for all major credit cards.
