After hosting a couple of primary season forums this summer, the local group Sons of Freedom is hosting a Park County School District 1 board forum.
The forum is Thursday at The Commons where people will be able to meet the large crop of candidates for Park County School District 1. Sons of Freedom president Andris Vaskis said all 11 candidates were invited to attend and each will be asked the same three questions — they will get the questions in advance — and deliver their answers. Then members of the audience will have the chance to ask questions of the candidates.
“We want to get people to know who’s running,” Andris Vaskis said.
Rep. Dan Laursen (R-Powell), who recently won the Republican primary for Senate District 19, will serve as the moderator.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to greet candidates, the forum starts at 6:30.
During the primary season this summer the group hosted a forum for a handful of Republican statewide elected officials and one for area state house and state senate candidates.
The group used to be the Park County Republican Mens Club but Vaskis said they changed the name a few months ago as he said the group is not officially associated with the Republican Party.
He said they would like to do forums with candidates running for other special district boards this fall if possible, and there is a plan to do a forum for school board candidates in Cody as well.
Candidate drops out of Powell Fire District Director No. 5 race
One of the Powell Fire District Director races just got a little less crowded. Kelly Spiering told the Park County Elections office Thursday that he was dropping out of the race for the Powell Fire District Director No. 5 position.
That leaves Earl Melton and Heath Worstell in the race for the seat.
