Local classes focus on writing your autobiography

Have you ever thought about writing the story of your life for your family? You may talk about it or try to start it, but it can become a daunting task.

Upcoming classes in Powell and Cody will help residents get their autobiography done. The classes will give participants lots of ideas and tools.

Robyn Cutter with Heritage Photographics will teach the classes through Powell Valley Community Education. She will go through an organized process and will bring examples of autobiographies. Most recently, she has assisted Bob Richard with his autobiography, completing over 400 pages within six months. Cutter will also discuss how to use current technology that is easy to use to expedite the process.

Cutter and her daughter, Morgan Sanchez, will also teach PVCE classes on making Shutterfly books and archiving photos. Shutterfly books are an easy way to share family photos with other relatives.

The archiving class will look at organizing and downsizing photos, slides, negatives and documents. Children and grandchildren don’t want to store the large mass of photo albums and stuff their families have collected. “If we don’t archive, organize and downsize our collection, it may just end up in the dumpster one day and our stories lost,” Cutter said.

All classes are $10 and start at 6 p.m. the following days:

In Cody, at Northwest College Center:

  • Today (Tuesday): Shutterfly class
  • Wednesday: Autobiography class
  • Thursday: Archiving class

In Powell, at Northwest College in the Fagerberg Building:

  • March 10: Shutterfly class
  • March 11: Autobiography class
  • March 12: Archiving class
