Lester Larsen

Posted

Lester was born in Billings, Montana, on Feb. 14, 1950, to Arthur and Marie Larsen.

He adored spending time with his sister, Connie Powell, and his aunt Grace Brown.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, Lester and Sally Brown, at their place in the mountains. He loved to fish and hunt with his grandfather as often as he could. His love of fishing and the outdoors led him to his favorite job as a fishing guide in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He would regale everyone with his stories of the adventures and friendships he had and made while there.

He met is wife Pamela Jeanne Howell in Powell. They were married in 1972. That same year they had their beloved daughter Kristy. In 1978 they had their other and adored daughter Casey.

Les joined the Army in 1972 and served for three years as a supply specialist. He was stationed in Texas and was deployed to Germany during the Vietnam War. He spoke of the many wonderful people he met while in the military.

After retiring from the military, Les drove a beer delivery truck, where he came up with many lyrics to his songs. He went from driving to work for Amoco as an oil field technician and was transferred to Evanston, Wyoming. From there his family moved to Great Falls, Montana, where he and Pam bought a furniture refinishing business. After an unfortunate fire at the shop, he moved on to work for FedEx. He retired in 2020.

His interests included spending as much time as possible with his grandson Hunter. He was so elated to pass on the knowledge and skills his grandfather gave to him. Spending time with his grandson were some of the greatest and most treasured memories he had. One of his favorite days was being there when Hunter caught his first fish. He loved to snowmobile with his family. He liked to hunt, fish, read, watch old westerns and football. He enjoyed working on sudoku, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Les loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Kristy Larsen and Casey Carter, son-in-law Tim Carter, and his much-loved grandson Hunter Carter. They are all of Great Falls. He is also survived by his sisters Connie Powell of Casper, Wyoming, and Grace Brown, of Billings, Montana; his sister-in-law Connie (Steve) Thull; his sister-in-law Dorothy Olson, all of Powell; his brother-in-law Ron (Penny) Howell of Acton, Montana; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews and their families scattered around the country.

As per Les’s wishes there will be no funeral services held. However, we will have a celebration of the life for Les in a few weeks. More details to come. So please watch on all of our Facebook pages for more information.

Les is loved and will be missed by many. Rest in peace, Pa!
