Are you running out of activities while self-isolating with your friends and family? Officials at Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area say they may have a solution.
Bighorn Canyon is again offering guided kayak programs on Bighorn Lake throughout August.
Programs will be presented by park rangers on both ends of the lake. They’ll cover proper paddling techniques, general safety precautions and fun facts about the famed canyon.
The kayaking excursions will be offered free of charge on a first come, first served basis.
To decrease the possibility of community spread of COVID 19, the programs will be restricted this year to family groups of six to eight people, with face coverings required. Participants must call the Bighorn Canyon NRA Visitor Center at 307-548-5406 ahead of time to register. Have a list of the people in your group and their life jacket sizes available.
In the canyon’s South District outside of Lovell, programs will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 6-7, and Aug. 20-21. Rangers will lead participants from Horseshoe Bend to Crooked Creek.
In the North District, near Fort Smith, Montana, programs will run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 and 27, heading from Ok-A-Beh to Box Canyon.
