In his second year of varsity action, Powell High School sophomore Brock Johnson made the leap — moving into the basketball team’s starting lineup and earning All State honors in Class 3A.

Johnson increased his scoring output significantly from his freshman year, jumping from 3.9 points in 14 games off the bench, to 12.9 points per game as a starter while shooting 44% from the field in 27 games. That included scoring a career high 31 points against Lyman during a home matchup in February.

In addition to putting up more points, Johnson averaged 5.7 rebounds per game along with 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals.

Johnson was the leading scorer for a Panther team that won the regional championship and advanced to the semifinals at the state tournament in Casper.

Johnson was also named to the 3A West All-Conference team, being joined there by seniors Zach Ratcliff and Toran Graham. Ratcliff averaged 9.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for the Panthers in his final season while Graham averaged 8.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 60% from the field.

The Panthers tied with Lyman for the second-most players to be named All-Conference, falling just behind Worland, who finished with four players named to the team.

Meanwhile, PHS junior Maddie Campbell was the lone girls player named to the 3A West All-Conference team. In her third year of varsity experience, Campbell finished the season averaging 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.8 assists per game. She led the team in scoring, steals and assists.
