Hello, my name is Braden Schiller and I am starting as a reporter at the Powell Tribune. I have also written for the University of Wyoming newspaper, the Branding Iron, and Newcastle’s Newsletter Journal. I graduated from the University of Wyoming in December with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in marketing communications. Only five days after finishing my last college final, my wife Katie and I welcomed our first child, Atticus James. Life has been moving very fast for me lately but I can’t say that I haven’t been enjoying all the positive change.
Prior to “Laradise,” I was raised here in Powell, where I went to school, swam varsity and once played a brick wall in Powell High School’s rendition of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (this was, of course, my proudest moment). I was also one of the original members and editor of Powell High School’s first online newspaper, The Prowl.
Before The Prowl I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but then I graduated from Powell High School in May 2018 and immediately enrolled as a journalism major at the University of Wyoming. I haven’t second-guessed that decision once.
My hobbies outside of writing include reading, hiking, rock climbing, building a motorcycle and now changing diapers. I can be found outside most weekends, preferably climbing if I have the choice. However, it’s quickly becoming clear to me that for the near future I will be changing diapers more than anything else.
In my time here at the Powell Tribune I hope to be present and accessible in the community. I also aim to write stories that are accurate, informative, engaging and reflect my passion for journalism and for the community here in Powell, Wyoming.
