Homecoming week arrives at Powell schools

Posted

Homecoming offers a time for the Panther community to reminisce on their days as a Panther while showing team spirit and support for the future of the Powell Panthers.

This is homecoming week, meaning many activities and events are going on throughout the week in the Powell school system — dress-up days, Homecoming Olympics and various sporting events.

Monday was Sports Day, where Powell High School students and staff dressed up in various jerseys and sportswear. Meanwhile, the Panther freshman football team hosted Lovell High School and the cross country team traveled to the Foster Gulch Golf Course in Lovell for the Rocky Mountain Invitational. There was also a tailgate party and a Buff Puff volleyball tournament at PHS.

Next up today (Tuesday), is Rock ‘n’ Roll ’80s Day. The Lady Panther swim team will compete in a dual in Cody at 5 p.m. and the Lady Panther volleyball teams are away in Lovell. The freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams play at 4, 5 and 6 p.m., respectively, facing the Lady Bulldogs.

Wednesday is Color Day, where each class is assigned a color. The freshman class will be dressed in yellow, sophomores are red, the junior class wears green and the senior class of 2020 will wear blue. On Wednesday evening, the Parent Support group is sponsoring Homecoming Olympics at the Park County Fairgrounds, starting at 6:30 p.m. Teams will show off their costumes and their enthusiasm throughout the night.

A recent internet trend, VSCO girl and E-Boy, will be Thursday’s dress-up day. Meanwhile, the Panther tennis teams will head to Gillette for the Thursday-Saturday state tennis tournament. Also on Thursday, PHS cross country will run in Worland at 4 p.m. and Lady Panther Volleyball will be at home, again with game times at 4, 5 and 6 p.m.

Panther Pride Day is the last dress-up day. Following the early release Friday will be the 1:00 p.m. homecoming parade, where Powell students will make their way downtown in various floats.

Finally, the 2-1 Powell Panther football team will host the 0-3 Evanston Red Devils at 7 p.m., with the homecoming royalty announced and homecoming queen crowned at halftime. A homecoming dance follows the game.

(Editor's note: This version corrects the date of the tailgate party and Buff Puff volleyball tournament.)
