Hernandez tops competition at PGC championship tournament

The Powell Golf Club held its annual members club championship tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

West Hernandez won the event with rounds of 74-72 for a gross score of two-over-par 146. Rich Olmsted came in second with rounds of 79-78 for a gross score of 157 and earned first with a net score of 145. Dick Fisher also competed in the championship flight, firing rounds of 80-85, for a 165.

In the second of the two championship flights, Nathan Spitzer won the gross score with a 168 (85-83) and Shawn Warner was second with a gross score of 171 (85-86).

Patrick Croft posted the best net score of 138 (with gross rounds of 90-82), with Toby Bonner second with a net score of 149.

Laurie Lee shot rounds of 88 and 85 to emerge on top of the women's championship flight with a low gross of 173, followed by Karla Rochlitz at 186 (94-92). Teresa Eicher meanwhile posted the best net score of 143, winning in a tiebreaker over Dana Ladd.

In the 60-plus gold flight, Craig Evans fired rounds of 79 and 85 to post a low gross score of 164. Marc Saylor finished second with a total of 171 (85-86). Bob Mason won the net score with a 142 and Tracy Copenhaver was second, also at 142.

For the 50-plus Brick Flight, Mike Bohlman won with a low gross score of 156 — shooting a 75 and an 81. Greg Toland came in second with a 169 (88-81). Doug Long won the net score with a 144 and Jerry Herweyer placed second at 150.
