Northwest College standout Darla Hernandez made it official, signing with the NCAA Division II Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners to continue her basketball and academic career.

Hernandez is a two-time all Region IX selection, averaging 14.3 points on more than 50% shooting during her two-year career at Northwest.

In addition to being first team All-Region in 2023, Hernandez was also named to the All-Defensive team averaging more than a steal and nearly half a block a game.

For her efforts this season, Hernandez was also named an honorable mention All-American — alongside being named the Northwest College Female Athlete of the Year.

Hernandez helped lead a resurgence for the Trapper women’s basketball team over her two years, helping the team compile a 34-24 record and the No. 2 seed in the Region IX tournament this past season.

Throughout her time at Northwest, Hernandez said  she has created relationships that will last a lifetime and she will carry those throughout her endeavors.

She will head to a Metro State team that finished with a 16-14 record last season and came up short in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.

She said she will be going to compete on a full ride scholarship.

Hernandez is the first player under coach Lauren Davis to sign on to a four year college, and she will have two years of eligibility remaining after signing to Northwest from Worland High School.
