Heritage Health Center hosts second gala event

Now four years old, Heritage Health Center will celebrate a year of expansion with its second Denim and Diamonds Gala at The Commons in downtown Powell Friday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The Federally Qualified Community Health Center opened its Powell clinic at 128 N. Bent St. in September of 2015. Since that time, HHC has served more than 3,500 individual patients and now averages about 560 clinic visits per month — 100 nurse visits and 460 provider visits. Dr. Juanita Sapp is medical director.

Making good on its mission to provide primary care to the Big Horn Basin, Heritage Health Center opened its second clinic in 2019 at 444 Greybull Ave. in Greybull. The clinic sees patients on Mondays and Thursdays.

HHC’s two physician assistants, PAs Dede Anders and Joseph Davidson, rotate days in Greybull, along with a nurse and medical assistant and behavioral health counselors.

“It has been steadily picking up at the new location, and we anticipate it will continue to do so as we move into the new year,” said Colette Mild, CEO of Heritage Health Center.

The health center also expanded its behavioral health services in the last year. HHC now has three behavioral health counselors available during regular clinic hours: Heather Bales, Wendy McAndrews and Hannah Winland.

“We are really trying to further develop our integrated care model, which revolves around treating the whole person from both a medical and a behavioral health perspective,” Mild said.

Also in 2019, HHC nurse Ashley Jarrett won the Wyoming Primary Care Association’s “Excellence in Health Center Care” award.

The Nov. 22 benefit event will feature a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres, a fundraising auction and dancing to The Rewinders. Tickets are $25 each or $40 per couple.

Tom Bibbey wins regional board member honor

Tom Bibbey, president of the Heritage Health Center governing board, has been recognized with the Exceptional Board Leadership award for Region VIII of the Community Health Association of Mountain Plains States (CHAMPS).

The honor was announced at the regional primary care conference in Seattle in October. The region includes health centers and primary care associations in  Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota, Colorado and Utah.

“He [Bibbey] is such a dedicated board member and advocate for the health center,” said Colette Mild, CEO of Heritage Health Center (HHC). “He has been such an asset. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Bibbey has been on the HHC board for nearly four years.

In nominating Bibbey, HHC medical director Juanita Sapp said, “He is a gentle leader and unselfish with his time and support.”

“Mr. Bibbey has made a concerted effort to understand the role of the board and how the board supports the clinic,” Sapp said. “He comes prepared with questions to every meeting. He is an advocate for the clinic in our community. He participates in community outreach events and is often the first to volunteer.”

Bibbey was not at the Seattle regional meeting. When he learned of the award, he said, “It was a tremendous surprise and a tremendous honor.”

The 11-member HHC board is made up of volunteer community members, more than half of whom are health center patients. In addition to Bibbey, board members include Scott Kolpitcke, vice president; Patricia Moulton, treasurer; Cindy Ibarra and Clyde Seifert, co-secretaries; and directors Wes Metzler, Larry Akin, Blake Thompson, Emily Denney, Chad Miner and Brooke Fink.
