Much of the nation was very ready to see the New Year roll in, but Rebecca and Roman Kinane of Greybull had a different reason to look forward to January.
That’s when their first child was due.
And Owen Anthony Kinane did not disappoint. He arrived just a day early — at 1:54 a.m. on Jan. 1 — and brought with him the honor of being the first baby born in 2021 at Powell Valley Hospital. He weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches long.
Rebecca Kinane, Owen’s mom, said Monday that baby Owen has been a really good baby so far, although they are working on his sleep cycle. Thus far, Owen has wanted to be more awake at night and sleep through the day.
“My mom said my brother was the same way, probably because he was born so early in the morning,” she said.
Rebecca did suffer gestational diabetes while she was pregnant, but said Owen’s was a pretty standard delivery.
“We had one false alarm last month [in December] but we knew I was in labor for sure this time,” she said.
Owen’s grandparents are Walt and Shauna Roberts of Great Falls, Montana, and John and Alex Kinane of Greybull. Shauna Roberts came down to be with the family when the baby was born, and Rebecca said her father will come down to see little Owen soon.
Apart from the surprise of Owen being Numero Uno for 2021, he came with another surprise for the family.
“We were so surprised that he had such a head full of blond hair. Most babies who are blond are almost bald, but his is a full head, almost platinum blond,” Rebecca said. “It is the same color that my mom’s hair was when she was very young.”
