Gerald “Jerry” Stroh, 77, of Cody, died suddenly Nov. 9, 2017, doing what he loved — hunting elk, with the woman he loved, in the truck he loved.
Jerry was born in Greeley, Colorado, on July 24, 1940, to Rueben and Ester Stroh.
They moved to Powell in 1948, where he graduated from Powell High School in 1958. After school he joined the National Guard in 1956 and was activated during the Vietnam conflict. He served in the Army until 1961.
After becoming a master plumber, he and his brother “Greek” went into business together in 1966 until retiring in 2015.
Jerry married Helen Younglove in 1965. They had two children, Lezli and Jerrod. His saddest day was when his son died in 1994.
His loves were hunting, shooting, and people. Jerry was a founding member of the Cody Shooting Complex. He shot every weekend and loved to teach people to shoot. He was very proud of his wife’s ability, and his star pupil Stephanie Stockhill. Jerry was the 2002 past president of the Cody Lions Club where he earned the International Melvin Jones Fellow award.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years Helen Stroh; daughter Lezli Stroh; brothers Greek (Naomi), Larry (Marcia) of Casper and Rick (Klodette) of Powell; sister-in-laws Mary Askvig (Richard) and Lois Smith (Norm) of Spring Valley, Arizona; many nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, and sister Janet Jones.
Funeral services will be held at Ballard Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 a.m.
