Gov. Mark Gordon has ordered both the U.S. and State of Wyoming flags to be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until sunset on Friday in honor of the late Wamsutter EMS paramedic Michael Wilder.
Wilder, of Rawlins, died in the line of duty on Jan. 11; he went into cardiac arrest while responding to the scene of a fatal car crash in the Wamsutter area, located east of Rock Springs.
Before joining Wamsutter EMS, Wilder served as a volunteer firefighter and as a member of the emergency service team at Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins.
An obituary for Wilder recounted that he “was always quick with a joke, hated green vegetables, could belch on command, and did an uncanny impersonation of Kermit the Frog.”
His family and coworkers will remember him “as a loving and big-hearted man who was willing to do anything for the ones he loved,” the obituary said. Wilder was 51 years old.
