Powell Recreation District hosted its first ski bus to Sleeping Giant Ski Area on Saturday. The bus left the parking lot of The Market at Powell (formerly Mr. D’s) at 7:30 a.m and arrived back in Powell around 5:30 p.m.
Though the turnout for the first trip was lower than expected, Powell Rec Director Colby Stenerson said he “has no doubt that the numbers will increase for the remaining trips.”
The trip costs $5, thanks to the program’s sponsors, and provides an affordable opportunity to venture to the North Fork slope.
“We believe the ski bus program is an excellent opportunity for youth who are looking for a chance to snowboard or ski,” Stenerson said. “But it’s not just for kids. The bus is available to anyone who would like a ride to Sleeping Giant and not have to drive.”
The next bus trip will be on Saturday, Jan. 9, with fresh snow forecasted to hit the region in the days leading up to it.
“We just want to see people take advantage of the bus and get outside for some great winter recreation,” Stenerson said.
