Ed was born on March 3, 1945 in Nisland, South Dakota, the son of Victor and Minnie (Lopez) Norlin. He grew up in Newell, South Dakota, graduating from Newell High School in 1963. He attended one year of college at Ellendale before he moved to Sidney, Montana to work. It was here where he met Jo Ann Akers and the two were married on June 18, 1966. As a married couple, they made their home in Sidney, Montana, for several years before moving to Terry, Montana. While in Terry, Ed managed Buffalo Rapids Irrigation District. In 1985, Ed and Jo Ann moved to Powell, Wyoming, where Ed managed the Shoshone Irrigation District. After retiring from the irrigation district, Ed worked for Fremont Motor Company, where he found joy in his work alongside his Fremont family. Powell was their home until 2022, when they moved to Dickinson, North Dakota, to be closer to family.
Ed enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and watching all sports. He loved to follow his kid’s activities. He made friends easily with his kind heart and warm smile; no one was a stranger for long around Ed. His favorite role was being “Papa” to his wonderful grandchildren. Ed loved dogs and they loved him right back. He will be remembered as a kind gentle giant, a true gentleman and a great friend.
