Cub tracksters finish strong at Best of the Best

Impressive performances capped off a strong season by the Cubs track teams. The boys and girls teams traveled to Lander on May 10 to compete in the Best of the Best track meet.

The eighth grade girls 4x400 team of Melissa Merritt, Josie Werner, Audrey Johnson and Nalani Jordan capped off an undefeated season as they won with a personal best time of 4:37.75.

Johnson also had a strong individual meet, as she won the 200 meters with a time of 28.07 and placed top five in both the 100 and 400 meters.

For the seventh grade girls, Karee Cooley placed second in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:52.99.

Leah Graham finished the season strong in the throws, as she placed third in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet, 2 inches, and second in the discus with a throw of 74 feet, 5 inches.

“We told the kids to enjoy the meet and compete against the best in the state,” Cubs track coach Zach Coombs said. “It is such an honor and privilege just to get to go to the meet.”

On the boys side, Garrett Lennon was the lone victor for the seventh graders as he won the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 6 inches.

Breckyn Kobbe placed top four in the 100, 200 and 400 meters as well as the long jump to cap off a strong season.

Kaden Wolff and Brady Harvey finished in third and fourth in the shot put to lead the throwers.

For the eighth graders, Nathan Preator placed second in both hurdle races, and placed fifth in the high and triple jumps.

Caden Nelson placed second in both the 200 meters and the long jump; Korbyn Warren placed second in the 1600 meters and third in the 800 meters; Gabe Weimer placed second in the discus and Shane Kirkpatrick placed second in the 400 meters.
