A dominant performance led to two team wins for the Powell Middle School girls’ track and field teams in the opening meet of the season, as the eighth grade Cubs won by 114 points and the seventh graders won by just under 90 points in Burlington.
“We are incredibly proud of both our seventh and eighth grade girls for their outstanding performances,” coach Amanda Haney said. “Winning by such large margins is a testament to their hard work and commitment to improving every day. They came out strong, competed with confidence and set the tone for a great season ahead.”
First place finishes rained down for the Cubs, led by Lucy Ostermiller and Anyston Keller, who each won two events.
Ostermiller claimed the top spot in the 100 meter dash, winning in 13.6 seconds, and the triple jump, leaping 29 feet, 4 inches, while Keller swept the distance events winning the 800 meters in 2:50.58 and the 1600 meters in 5:52.55.
