Craig earns athlete-of-the-week honors at Dickinson State

Lexee Craig of Powell was recently named the North Star Athletic Association’s field athlete-of-the-week. The Dickinson State University senior picked up the honor Wednesday, after capturing the pole vault title at the March 19 Montana State-Billings/Rocky Mountain Invitational.

At the outdoor season opener, Craig cleared a height of 3.35 meters (10 feet, 11.75 inches). That had tied for the best measurement in the NAIA at that point in the season.

Craig is already a two-time national qualifier in the pole vault and she’s now just shy of the NAIA national “B” qualifying standard of 3.55 meters.

One of her fellow Dickinson State Blue Hawks, Paxton Miller, also earned NSAA field athlete-of-the-week honors with strong performances in the javelin.

“After the entire 2020 season off, it’s exciting to see these two individuals get off to such a good start,” said head coach Shayne Wittkopp. “You’ve got to be proud of two seniors that have spent this much time preparing for this season. They’ve both worked hard.”

Over the weekend, Craig placed third at the NCAA Division II Yellowjacket Spring Open, hosted by Black Hills State in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Craig graduated from Powell High School in 2016.
