Cowley student wins statewide competition

On Aug. 3, Aubrianne Crosby of Cowley was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Wyoming and awarded $2,820 in scholarships. Crosby earned the honors during a statewide program for high school girls held at the Gryphon Theater in Laramie.

Crosby was one of five Wyoming high school seniors who competed to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of Wyoming for 2020.

Participants were evaluated in the categories of scholastics (25 percent), interview (25 percent), Talent (20 percent), fitness (15 percent) and self-expression (15 percent).

Throughout the next year, Crosby will represent the state at various public events and serve as a role model to young people by spreading the program’s national outreach message of, “Be Your Best Self.” The outreach program is designed to encourage self-esteem and excellence in all young people through its five principles: Be healthy, be involved, be studious, be ambitious and be responsible.

Crosby is the daughter of Brett and Desirée Crosby and will be a senior at Rocky Mountain High School in Cowley this fall.

The Class of 2020 also included Sydney Olson of Burlington, who was recognized for overall fitness, overall talent, overall scholastic and spirit of Distinguished Young Women.

The 63rd National Finals will take place in Mobile, Alabama, on June 25-27, 2020. Crosby will travel to Mobile — along with 51 other representatives from across the country — to participate in personal development activities and community service projects before competing for the opportunity to become the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2020.

Begun in 1958, Distinguished Young Women’s mission is to empower high school young women by providing scholarship opportunities, developing self-confidence and teaching crucial life skills needed for success in college and beyond.
