Cheryl Ann Syndergaard went home to be with Jesus the morning of April 9, 2020, surrounded by her family: husband, Kenneth; daughter, Kennette (Stewart); son, Shane (Sarah) and her five grandchildren: Tess (Brandyn), Kenyon, Shaynee, Madison, and KJ.

Cheryl arrived in Powell on Nov. 26, 1943. She was raised by Elmer and Frances Kersting. She graduated from the Powell public school system where she met the love of her life Kenneth Syndergaard. Cheryl went on to complete one year at Northwest Community College. Ken and Cheryl were married in Moose, Wyoming, at the quaint little Chapel of Transfiguration in the beautiful Tetons.

Cheryl worked at the First National Bank of Powell. Their first child, Steven Jon, was born in Powell. Cheryl followed her husband to Belle Creek, Montana, during the 1967 oil boom. As the first family to move into Belle Creek, they made a life and had another child, Kennette Ann. During this time, Cheryl was a bookkeeper in the oil field for five years.

They left the oil field to open a service station in Billings, Montana. Ken’s Interstate was a huge part of her and Ken’s life for 22 years, where she kept the books.  During this time they had a third child, Shane Troy. Cheryl was an active part of her kids’ lives, being a den mother for Cub Scouts, secretary for Jurrett’s school of baton and dance, treasurer for Billings Aquatic Club swim team, and involved in PTO.

In 1995 Ken’s Interstate Service Station closed and Cheryl went to work for First Interstate Bank. Ken and Cheryl “retired” in 2005 and became full-time “RVers,” where they pursued their dream jobs working in Yellowstone National Park for six years. Their time in Yellowstone was some of the most memorable. They made lifelong friends and enjoyed the wildlife and scenery.

In 2012 they moved to Boise, Idaho, to be closer to their kids and grandkids. Here she worked for Grapevine 7 RV resorts for a couple of years. She spent her winters in Boise, and summers in McCall, Idaho. McCall was one of her favorite places where she took joy in feeding the foxes and deer and watching the squirrels and birds.

Cheryl was diagnosed with dementia. The disease may have stripped her short term memory, but her long term memory remained intact. She worked hard to remember her grandchildren along the way. Cheryl lived for her grandkids, attending every game, performance, graduation, and party. She would do anything for her family and friends and she will be truly missed, but we are comforted knowing she has been reunited with her son, Steven Syndergaard, and three grand-babies she never met.

We are grateful for Ken as he took phenomenal care of his beloved Cheryl during their time together. Also a big thank you to the staff of The Cottages, Saint Luke’s Hospice and Accent Funeral Home for their amazing care of Cheryl during her last days.

A virtual service will be held Saturday, April 18, from 5-7 p.m. Please visit Facebook and search Cheryl Ann Syndergaard Virtual Service to join the service. Remembrances may be left for Cheryl’s family on her webpage at www.AccentFuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Accent Funeral Home and Cremation in Meridian, Idaho.
