Charles George Soames died May 19, 2019, at Swedish Medical Center, in Denver, Colorado. A resident of Byron, Charles was born on Oct. 6, 1946, in Peru, Indiana, the son of the late CPA Charles B. Soames III and his wife, Elizabeth Lee Soames.

Charles graduated from Peru High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he completed four years of service and achieved the rank of sergeant. Charles completed two tours in Vietnam, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Air Crew Insignia with three stars, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, and the Air Medal 10 times.

He attended 10 weeks of naval supply clerk CRS, operations against guerilla units, and eight weeks of NCO leadership course. Soames then completed his associate degree in accounting.

Charles worked for the C&O Railroad before leaving for the West to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He left Burlington Northern to start his publishing business, Wolverine Distributing, Inc., in 1995. Charles sold books throughout the United States that promoted Wyoming and Wyoming history until his retirement in 2017.

Charles loved the West and hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking the Wyoming countryside. He believed in the Lord with all his heart and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, six aunts, five uncles and seven first cousins.

He is survived by his sister, Indiana CPA Cynthia E. Soames and 12 first cousins.

Cynthia asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Neighborhood Watch Program.
