Itching to learn more about the candidates running for Park County’s elected offices or just hoping to meet them in person? The next couple of weeks will bring multiple chances.

Local candidates for the Wyoming House and Senate and the Park County Commission will gather in both Powell and Cody next week.

On Tuesday evening, legislative and commission candidates come together at the Washington Park bandshell, with a meet and greet from 5 to 6 p.m. and a forum from 6 to 8 p.m.

Then on Wednesday, the contenders are set to do it again at the Cody City Park bandshell, with another meet and greet from 5-6 p.m. and a forum from 6-8 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs, as no seating will be provided at either gathering. Questions for the candidates can be submitted via email to parkcountyrepublicanwomen@gmail.com.

Park County Republican Women are hosting the events, which, with no Democrats running, will feature only Republican candidates.

Four people — incumbents Jake Fulkerson and Lee Livingston, Powell City Councilman Scott Mangold and Ted Smith of Cody — are vying for two available seats on the county commission.

Meanwhile, four Republicans — state Rep. David Northrup of Powell, former Commissioner Tim French of Heart Mountain, Cody school board member Stefanie Bell and Richard Jones of Wapiti — are seeking to represent Senate District 18 and replace retiring Sen. Hank Coe, R-Cody.

There’s also a contentious battle to represent the Cody area in the Wyoming House. Rep. Sandy Newsome, R-Cody, is facing primary challenges from former Hot Springs County Clerk Nina Webber of Wapiti and former Rep. Scott Court of Cody in House District 24.

Meanwhile, Rachel Rodriguez Williams of Cody is running unopposed in her bid to take Rep. Northrup’s seat in House District 50. And state Rep. Dan Laursen, R-Powell, also has no opposition after a serious injury to a family member forced challenger Chris Good of Powell to withdraw from the House District 25 race.

Many of the contenders — along with those for other offices like the Powell City Council — will return to the Washington Park Bandshell on Tuesday, Aug. 4. From 3 to 6 p.m., the Powell Economic Partnership/Powell Chamber is hosting a separate Meet the Candidates event for those seeking city, county and state positions.

Candidates will be manning campaign tables from 3 to 4 p.m., with a forum from 4 to 5 p.m. and additional meet and greet time from 5-6 p.m. Attendees will again be asked to bring chairs or blankets and will be encouraged to sit within household groups.
