Powell football stayed put at No. 3 in the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Poll released on Wednesday. This came after the Panthers crushed No. 4 Star Valley at home in a 28-6 rout on Friday.

With the win, Powell High School is now 4-1 with the lone loss coming to Cody on homecoming night. After his team sailed to victory on Friday, head coach Chase Kistler stressed the importance of staying persistent and avoiding complacency.

“Other teams are going to keep getting better,” Kistler said. “There comes a point where we just have to go, no matter who’s in and who’s playing. We just have to go and have that mentality.”

On Friday, the Panthers make the trek to Green River for a road contest against the Wolves. They are 2-3 overall this season, most recently falling 63-17 to No. 1 Jackson Hole.

Here’s a preview of Friday’s game versus Green River by the numbers:

33: Powell enters Friday having allowed just 33 points all season. That’s over a span of five games, with Cody being the only opponent to score twice. It’s hard to ask for better production out of a defense that’s averaging 6.6 points per contest.

8: Senior quarterback Landon Lengfelder played his best game of 2020 on Friday, completing eight passes to four different targets. His longest heave came on a 48-yard touchdown throw to senior wideout Braily Gann.

10: The Panthers have forced 10 turnovers this season, with four coming against Star Valley. They have a plus-6 turnover margin through five games this year.

14: Green River rushed out to a quick offensive start in its recent loss to Jackson Hole, scoring 14 points in the first quarter. At one point, it was a competitive game tied 14-14 and appeared to be headed for a shootout.

It didn’t last, however, as they scored just three points the rest of the game.

115: Green River running back James King has broken the 100-yard single-game rushing mark twice this season. His best game came against Evanston, when he tallied 115 yards on 16 touches.
