Someone dealt damage to the Buffalo Bill Dam Visitor Center over the weekend, authorities say — including pushing the a motorized cart partway down the Shoshone River Canyon.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that it’s actively investigating the case.

The vandalism at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation facility, located at 4808 Highway 14/16/20, was discovered and reported to the sheriff’s office on Monday.

Deputies found the main gate to the center damaged, but still locked.

“It appears to have been struck with a vehicle at a low rate of speed in an attempt to gain entry,” said Charla Baugher Torczon, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. Past the gate, a Coca-Cola and a Pepsi vending machine were tipped over and damaged.

“And finally, the golf cart, parked in the back, was accessed and pushed into the canyon, but was stopped from going all the way down by a cable barrier,” Baugher Torczon said.

Anyone with information about the damage is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 307-754-8700.
