Basin youth to compete for Distinguished Young Woman of Wyoming on Saturday

Posted

High school senior girls from across Wyoming will join together in Laramie for the Distinguished Young Women of Wyoming on Saturday in Laramie. Participants will compete for cash scholarships and the opportunity to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of Wyoming for 2020.

The six young women will be competing, including two from the Big Horn Basin: Aubrianne Crosby of Cowley and Sydney Olson of Burlington. The others competitors are Riley Little of Saratoga, Sydnee Philpott of Afton, Robin Rhoden of Upton and Yadhira Vicencio-Delgadillo of Rock Springs.

Each young woman  will be evaluated by a panel of five judges for: scholastics (25 percent), interview (25 percent), talent (20 percent), fitness (15 percent) and self-expression (15 percent). One young woman will advance to the 63rd Distinguished Young Women National Finals in Mobile, Alabama, in June 2020. There she’ll join with 51 other representatives from across the country in competing for cash scholarships and the opportunity to represent the program as the Distinguished Young Woman of America.

Begun in 1958, Distinguished Young Women’s mission is to empower high school young women by providing scholarship opportunities, developing self-confidence and teaching crucial life skills needed for success in college and beyond.
