Barbara Ellen Kirkwood, 77, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away at 9:24 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Holten, Kansas, the daughter of the late Marvin and Hazel (Henneburg) LaFarge. On March 31, 1967, in Powell, Wyoming, she married Tim Kirkwood, who survives her.
Barbara was a 1965 graduate of Powell High School in Powell, Wyoming and had attended Northwest Community College. She retired in 2011 from Community Howard Regional Health. Barbara had also worked for Betty’s Heart to Heart Country Store, Meijer, Grissom AFB, Century Hardware, Housing Cleaning Team on Grissom AFB and Learning Tree Daycare Center. Barbara loved crafting gifts for Christmas, watching Indiana University basketball and spending time at their place in Valley of the Pines in Angola, Indiana. She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church Choir.
Along with her husband Tim, Barbara is also survived by her daughters, Deena Russell and Darcee (Scott) Lillard; grandchildren, Kevin (Barbara) Jones, Christopher (Sarah) Jones, Elly Wyatt and Brad Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Violet Bitner, Alice Jones, Harper Jones and Vincent Jones; and sister, Kay (Ray) Green.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon Severance.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, Indiana, with Chaplain Richard Olson officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
