After 20 years of service to the people of Park County, sheriff’s deputy Jackson James “J.J.” Schwindt is retiring.
Schwindt’s last day on patrol was Friday and he’ll officially retire once he’s finished testifying in Dennis Klingbeil’s murder trial.
Schwindt joined the sheriff’s office in 1999 as a detention deputy before moving to the patrol division in 2003. He has worked out of the Cody district.
In retirement, Schwindt plans to manage firearms sales at a local retailer.
“We thank Deputy Schwindt for his service to the citizens of Park County and wish him well in his new career,” the sheriff’s office said in a Monday Facebook post.
Schwindt was the second long-time deputy to retire from the Cody district in a week; Sgt. Chad McKinney, who supervised the deputies in the Cody area, retired on July 27.
Sheriff Scott Steward told Park County commissioners back in June that he expected at least three deputies in the Cody district to retire this summer. Law enforcement officers in Wyoming are generally eligible for retirement benefits after serving for 20 years.
