An (intern)duction

I’m Lucy Jane Crimm, the newest intern at the Powell Tribune. I graduated from Powell High School in December and plan on pursuing a career in investigative journalism. I was part of the PHS newspaper, the Prowl, for three years and took on leadership positions such as news editor, opinion editor and editor-in-chief.

This fall I’ll be attending Casper College and working towards an associate’s degree in journalism communications. I enjoy journalism because I like researching and putting together information, as well as helping others in the community tell their story. But as far as writing goes, I’m not very good at writing about myself — and this first assignment is definitely not an easy one.

Aside from writing and investigating, some of my hobbies are volunteering, painting and photography. I volunteer at the Park County Animal Shelter and at Habitat for Humanity on Bent Street, both of which are very rewarding in their own ways. I love animals and if given the choice between interacting with a human or an animal, I would definitely choose an animal. I live out in Clark with two dogs, four cats, four chickens and five alpacas.

I believe the relationship between the press and the people is one of the most important in our country because the role of the press is to act as a liaison between the government and the people. It is the role of journalists everywhere to report the truth, minimize harm and serve the public.

I’m excited to work with the Powell Tribune in this internship because I think it’ll give me real world journalistic experience, the kind that can only come from actually being in a newsroom. It will be nice to work with the community and fulfill the duties of a journalist in an honest and precise way.
