American Legion post resumes normal hours, with modifications

Avenue of Flags set for Memorial Day

Powell’s Hughes-Pittinger American Legion Post 26 opened for normal business hours on Monday afternoon — though with added precautions prescribed by the Wyoming Department of Health.

“Thank you all for being patient,” said Post Commander Russell Stafford.

On Friday, the Legion will place headstone memorial flags on the markers of all veterans at Crown Hill Cemetery. Then on Memorial Day, the post will conduct its annual Avenue of Flags, marking the cemetery’s avenues with donated flags of veterans. Anyone interested in helping or obtaining more information can contact the post at 307-754-3411.

The post’s monthly membership meeting is set for 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday).

“We want to thank all those who worked throughout this time and continue to wish everyone safety and prosperity,” Stafford said.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Legion post donated the use of its kitchen facilities to prepare meals for those in need. Stafford offered a special thank you to the leaders of the Love Thy Neighbor — Powell group and all of those who donated and supported the program.
