Competition to benefit Cody family

Do you have a talent you enjoy sharing? If so, you can help raise money for a local family facing medical costs related to their young son.

As part of the Cody library’s Summer Reading Celebration, organizers are hosting a talent competition to help raise funds for baby Noah Rivers. The son of Josh and Kayla Rivers of Cody, Noah was diagnosed with a birth defect called congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). It is a condition where there is a hernia (hole) in the diaphragm. Noah was born with stomach and intestinal parts in his chest cavity that required surgery.

He’s doing well and showing improvement, but the Rivers family faces ongoing medical expenses associated with his care.

That’s where Compete for a Cause comes in.

Organizer Brook Grant described it as “a top-notch talent competition that blesses those in need.” Set to be staged at the Wynona Thompson Auditorium in Cody at 6 p.m. on Aug. 22, Grant is currently searching for folks — of any age — who are interested in competing in the show.

“You can use the talents YOU have been blessed with to BLESS the lives of others!” she said. “This is a chance for you to use your talents to help raise funds for the Rivers family. This will only work with your help!”

Grant is hoping to see participants from across the Big Horn Basin.

To land a spot in the show, competitors must submit a video of their talent to compete4cause@gmail.com or via Instagram to @competeforacause_cody by Monday, July 8. A panel will then quickly select the top talents to feature at the show. There’s no fee to participate.

There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place in each age group, with additional awards for people’s choice and an overall winner.

By submitting a video, you’re agreeing to be in the show. Competitors will need to be available for the full day of Thursday, Aug. 22, as there will be a dress rehearsal in the morning to work out any kinks. Donations will be accepted at the door of the Compete for a Cause show. Organizers are also seeking sponsors, advertising and help behind the scenes.

For more information, or to volunteer, email compete4cause@gmail.com, call or text Grant at 307-250-0998, or talk to children’s librarian Holly Baker at the Park County Library in Cody.
