No surprise, turnout at the 2020 Powell High School alumni reunion earlier this month was light during the COVID-19 pandemic year.
But for PHS Alumni Association board member Gerry Wilkins, the important thing was that it went into the books as the 105th consecutive all-class reunion. It means he can continue to push for the PHS Alumni Association to be recognized in the Guiness Book of Records.
Wilkins, of Billings, maintains that the string of 105 consecutive all-class reunions is a world record.
Another consecutive attendance of note was set by PHS alumna Shirley Williams Cox. Attendance may have been down at the Saturday afternoon lunch in Washington Park, but she was one of about 30 to gather, and this marked her 77th consecutive reunion.
Of the weekend alumni events Wilkins said, “Turnout was light, which was expected, but I think those who attended had a great time.”
He urged classes to begin planning now for the 2021 year, “because those who didn’t have their big reunion this year are moving it to next year.” Wilkins said this year’s 25, 30, 40, 50 and 60-year class reunions are moving their celebration to 2021.
