Write-in winner to join hospital board; incumbents re-elected

Three incumbents — Deb Kleinfeldt, Larry Parker and Bonita Katz — won re-election Tuesday to four-year terms in their seats on the Powell Hospital District Board of Trustees, defeating challenger Robert Murphy.

On Thursday afternoon, the Park County Elections Office announced that Gerri Ackley received the most write-in votes to claim a two-year seat on the board.

Kleinfeldt came in on top, with 2,984 votes, or 33.6 percent of the votes cast in the race for the three full terms. She was followed by Parker, who garnered 2,152 votes, or 24.2 percent, and Katz, who received 1,950 votes, or 22 percent.

Murphy lost his bid for election to the board by 242 votes, coming in fourth place with 1,708 votes, or 19.2 percent. He was then narrowly beaten by Ackley for the two-year term: she received 47 write-in votes while Murphy was written in on 42 ballots, said Park County Election Deputy Teecee Barrett. A total of 162 write-in votes were cast for the seat, according to unofficial election results.

No candidates filed for the two-year unexpired term, which is currently held by Mark Olson. Olson, who did not run for election, was appointed to the Powell Hospital District Board in July 2015 to replace Sandra Ehman, who resigned shortly after being elected.
