(May 8, 1921 - March 25, 2017)
Wilfred “Bill” Charles Marquardt, 95, died peacefully at Powell Valley Care Center on March 25, 2017, one day before his 56th wedding anniversary.
He was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on May 8, 1921, to William and Louise (Able) Marquardt and attended Behnke School through the eighth grade in Coleman, Wisconsin.
In 1942, Bill enlisted in the Army at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, and was stationed in Africa and Italy as an anti-aircraft and special vehicle operator until his honorable discharge on Nov. 27, 1945. He attended agriculture school on the GI bill.
Bill married Dorothy Ellingsen in 1946 and they had one son, Dennis. Dorothy passed away from MS.
On March 26, 1961, he married Marion Leffler Martin and became a stepfather to Jack, Ken, Dene and Bob Martin. Bill and Marion had one son, Rick.
After school, Bill worked for Unit Structure and Thompson Boats in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and they began dairy farming in Coleman. You could see him every Sunday at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Grover, Wisconsin. He participated in 4-H, was on a baseball team, bowling team and a dartball team. The farm was sold in 2000.
He loved fishing, gardening, hunting, playing cards and woodworking. In 2008, Bill and Marion moved to Wyoming and began attending the Cody United Methodist Church. The transition to watering a garden in Wisconsin vs. Wyoming was quite a challenge for him.
