Wilda Herrold, 93, died peacefully at Spirit Mountain Hospice House on Feb. 4, 2017. Her husband, Reuben Herrold, died five years earlier on the same day.
Wilda was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, to John Presley and Luna Rosella Ater. She and her family moved to California in 1935.
She grew up in a little town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas called Springville and lived there until her marriage to Reuben Herrold in 1948.
Reuben and Wilda had two daughters. They lived in Porterville until Reuben’s passing in 2012.
Wilda worked 32 years for the United States Forest Service, both in the District and Supervisor’s Office of the Sequoia National Forest.
She was a member of the Cody United Methodist Church, and she was involved in her church and numerous volunteer organizations over the years.
Wilda arrived in Cody in November 2012, after the passing of her husband. They had been married 63 years.
Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Thelma Willis, brother Lester Ater, and sister-in-law (Helen Ater).
She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Humbert (Richard) of Vancouver, Washington; and Theresa Harris (Ronald) of Cody; grandchildren Sarah Schlosser (Brian), Rachel Wall, Melissa (Robertson) Story, Michael Robertson (Sabrina Hernandez), and Mathew Robertson (Bridgette Trujillo); six great-grandchildren; a niece, nephew and other extended family members.
A celebration of Wilda’s life will occur on Tuesday, March 7, at 11 a.m., at Cody United Methodist Church, 1405 Beck Street. Memorial donations may be directed to the Cody United Methodist Church new roof fund, or Spirit Mountain Hospice House in Cody.
