Three sophomores honored for JV volleyball season

Having completed a 24-3 junior varsity volleyball season, three sophomores were honored with year-end awards of most inspirational, most improved and most coachable.

Karlie McKenzie was picked by her teammates as the most inspirational.

“She’s always so happy, a good leader,” said JV coach Tasha Miller.

Miller said Karlie McKenzie used her voice on the court to help her teammates and tried really hard to boost the morale of the team.

Most improved — also chosen by the players — went to Katie McKenzie, whose skills really started to click for her this season, Miller said.

“I’m really excited for next year, ‘cause I think there has just been a lot of growth done throughout her freshman and sophomore year,” said Miller.

The coaches choose the most coachable player and they selected Jazlyn Haney.

“Loved coaching her,” said Miller. “She was just always ready to do whatever I asked her to do and tried her hardest to accomplish whatever was asked of her by any one of the coaches.”

Miller added that “any of the girls could have been given most coachable.”

She said she loved coaching the team, because “they are just a really great set of girls, they are athletic, fun to coach and they all really want to learn.”

Last year, Miller served as the Powell High School freshman coach, moving up to the JV coaching position this year.

Beyond the award winners, the JV team consisted of Natalie Ostermiller, Kenlee Stenlund, Gabi Metzler, Kady Wells, Natalie Birdsley, Addie Howard, Ashtyn Haney, Jasmyne Lensegrav and Hartly Thorington.
