(Dec. 17, 1948 - Dec. 14, 2016)

Richard A. Fisher died a few days before his 68th birthday. His heart stopped while doing what he loved. He was hunting in the Sunlight area with his brother Perry and packing out his elk.

Richard was born in Billings on Dec. 17, 1948 to Bill and Bernice Fisher. He moved to Powell in 1952 and lived and worked there all his life. He became a brother to Perry and Debbie shortly after moving to the area. He married his first wife Linda Johnson in 1967. They had three kids Rick, Tiffany, and Chad. In 1977 Linda and Richard parted ways. In 1978 he married Judy Welch who he was with until her fight with cancer ended in 2006. Their union gave Richard the opportunity to become stepdad to Yancy and Shanee Welch.

After graduating from Powell High School, Richard worked in the oil field for a few years then began working for Burgener Farms of Powell to be closer to his family. In the early ’80s he began working for his dad Bill Fisher and partner Jim Cox of Cox and Fisher Inc.  He would eventually become a part owner of the family farm with his brother Perry and childhood friend Billy Cox. One could find the three of them nearly every day at 10 and 3 having coffee, organizing farming responsibilities, and of course sharing stories.

Richard was a devoted son, shared meals and visited his mom just about every day. He was close to Debbie and Perry, getting together regularly. Richard was a devoted father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather who traveled around the state watching sporting and school events. When he wasn’t watching his own brood he would be watching and supporting countless nieces and nephews.

Richard never met a stranger. Everyone was equal in his eyes. He had a knack of making people feel comfortable in their own skin. His life was an open book. People often shared details and secrets because he was the first to share about his own life and mishaps.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Fisher his father, Bill Fisher. He is survived by his mother Bernice Fisher, brother Perry (Trudy) Fisher and sister Debbie (Tom) Donarski; children Rick (Sandi) Fisher, Tiffany (Russ) McKenzie, Chad (Holly) Fisher, Shanee (Eric) Parham, and Yancy (Robbi) Welch; grandkids Tony (Dani) Betters, Demi (Dan) Olson, Aspen Fisher, Allex Haywood, Colton Parham, Ethan and Lily Welch and great-grandkids Oriah, Jayden, Mason, Kensley, Rylee, and Dax and special friend Kathy Wiseman.

Services will be held at the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell on Friday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. A viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home.
