Powell Cross country Team prepares for conference

Powell High School cross country held their last meet of the regular season at home.

Due to the amount of rain Powell received the first few days of October, the venue for Friday’s meet was changed from Powell Golf Club to Homesteader Park.

PHS head coach Cliff Boos said it proved a fast course for everybody because it was really flat — especially compared to the Thermopolis course the week before.

Overall, the Powell High School boys placed third out of six teams with 76 points. Cody claimed first with 19 points and Worland placed second with 69 points. Lovell took fourth with 122 points, Rocky Mountain placed fifth with 124 points and Riverton finished sixth with 129 points.

Alan Merritt was the single top 10 finisher for Powell out of 67 runners, placing eighth with a time of 17:30.59.

Rounding out Powell’s runners were:

• Jesse Erickson with a time of 18:07.84

• Colin Queen with a time of 18:20.17

• Dylan Cordes with a time of 18:23.39

• Jayden Yates with a time of 18:52.40

• Matthew Waite with a time of 18:56.69

• Brian Brazelton with a time of 20:05.11

• Steven Shopa with a time of 20:06.88

• Dylan McEvoy with a time of 20:59.86

• Alex Smith with a time of 21:18.34

As a team, the girls tied with Worland for fourth place in the six-team field, tallying 94 points. Thermopolis placed first with 38 points, Cody came second with 50 points and Riverton placed third with 85 points. Lovell wound up in sixth with 131 points.

Individually, Emma Andreason and Kayla Kolpitcke finished in the top 10 out of 58 runners. Andreason finished fifth with a time of 20:01.48 and Kolpitcke placed ninth with a time of 20:28.78.

Rounding out Powell’s finishers were:

• Teo Faulkner with a time of 22:05.62

• Natalie Dillivan with a time of 23:20.45

• Emily Sweet with a time of 25:01.92

• Emma Korte with a time of 25:17.72

On Friday, the Panther Cross Country teams head to Riverton for their conference meet. Time is to be announced.

“Fortunately, everything is coming together for us for conference,” coach Boos said. “Everyone has improved to the point that they are running better than they were at the beginning of the season. (These are) the strongest teams we’ve had all season.”
