‘Paint the Town Red’ to return in August

After the success of Northwest College’s Paint the Town Red celebration last summer, NWC President Stefani Hicswa is looking forward to a repeat celebration to kick off the coming fall semester.

Hicswa spoke to the Powell City Council on Monday about the Aug. 24 event; she asked the council to waive the rental and deposit fees for The Commons for the gathering — which the council voted to do. The college would only use The Commons for Paint the Town Red if there’s inclement weather.

NWC previously requested and received a noise ordinance waiver for the event.

“Paint the Town Red was an outstanding event last year to bring the college and the community together,” Hicswa said. “College students came out to get to know the stores, the vendors and the restaurants in town, and community members came out to welcome college students to campus. It was a great community event and a wonderful way to kick off the school year.”

Hicswa said that the college has booked a musical act for this year’s celebration, with country-pop artist Rachel Dixon scheduled to perform. The concert will be one of many activities taking place as part of Paint the Town Red.

“We have some activities scheduled for the kids, such as face painting and different kinds of things that the younger kids can do,” Hicswa said. “We’re going to have our athletes there doing some athletic activities with some of the older kids, so that our middle school, high school and elementary school kids can meet our athletes, which is always fun for them. [We hope] to get the community to come out on a nice night in August, enjoy the weather and enjoy Powell, and show our students how wonderful the community of Powell is.”
