Northwest College Art Department hosting new exhibit by NWC alum Calli Nissen

The Northwest College Art Department invites the community to an exhibit of artwork by NWC alumna Calli Nissen. The exhibition, titled Time-Lapse, opened Monday at the Northwest Gallery in the NWC Cabre Building.

Nissen is a printmaking artist who focuses on woodcut relief. Her prints in Time-Lapse use color, texture, and composition to evoke a feeling of place and the passage of time, especially within the Northern Rocky Mountain West in which she was raised. Her work explores humans’ relationship to the land, as well as to the plants and animals that inhabit it. The movement of the landscape in Nissen’s work captures a sense of place, the passing of memory, and the ephemeral nature of mortality.

A Powell native, Nissen graduated from NWC with her AA in Art in 2009, then continued on to earn her BFA at the University of Wyoming and her MFA at the University of Dallas. She has experience in multiple facets of arts education, has recently been an adjunct art instructor at Northwest College and worked at Caleco Foundry in Cody. She is currently the education director at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture in Bozeman, Montana.

For questions about the exhibit contact NWC Art Program Coordinator Anne Toner at anne.toner@nwc.edu or 307-754-6212.
