Loueen Royal died Oct. 21, 2016, at Spirit Mountain Hospice House with her family there. She was 78.
Loueen was born on Sept. 12, 1938, in Farnam, Nebraska, to Charles and Mattie Baxter. The family moved to Powell when Loueen was 2 years old. She grew up on the cemetery road in Powell where her father farmed.
On May 31, 1956, she met Carl at her sister’s wedding. They were married four months later on Sept. 30, 1956. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
Carl and Loueen lived in Powell when they were first married and later moved to Cody. While living in Powell their daughter, Stephanie, was born.
After moving to Cody, Loueen worked at First State Bank for 15 years. Wanting to have her own business, she opened a gift store called “The Brier Patch” and she owned it for 15 years. The Brier Patch was located on Sheridan Avenue in a building that Carl built for her. After closing her store, she went to work at The Plush Pony for six years.
She then worked for her son-in-law and daughter at their income tax business, where she worked for 14 years during tax season.
Loueen always enjoyed collecting antiques and loved going to auctions, antique stores and backyard sales. She also began shooting shotgun with her daughter, and they shot together and traveled to many different shoots. Loueen became very proficient at shooting.
She loved working in her yard and it showed. One summer, her yard was on the annual garden tour. Loueen loved animals, especially her cats.
Loueen is survived by her husband Carl; daughter Stephanie (Ray) Stockhill; cat Tricker; treasured friend Lois Hiestand, Byron City, Michigan; brother Roger (Pat) Baxter of Cody; sister Audrey Gwathmey of Lemon Grove, California; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Donald Baxter.
Cremation has taken place.
There will be a luncheon at the First Presbyterian Church in Cody, Saturday, Oct. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. Graveside services will be at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Park County Animal Shelter or Spirit Mountain Hospice House.
