Film featuring Wind River artists to be screened Wednesday in Cody

Early November at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West will bring an advance showing of a new WyomingPBS film on artists from the Wind River Indian Reservation.

The advance screening of the film “The Art of Home: A Wind River Story” begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 in the center’s Coe Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Producer Jordan Dresser and Shoshone artist Sarah Ortegon, who is featured in the film, will be on hand to answer questions after the screening. Dovetailing with the event, the center’s Plains Indian Museum will be installing an exhibit case on its mezzanine level featuring Arapaho and Shoshone art from the 19th century through today.

According to the film’s description, “Two indigenous artists create new works reflecting on their tribal homelands, the Wind River Indian Reservation. ... Yet, neither of the artists lives there. The film explores the process of creating art, art as reconciliation, and what it means to be a ‘native artist.’”

The Art of Home film screening is sponsored by WyomingPBS and Alpheus Media, and funded in part by the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, Carole & Jack Nunn, and Fighting Bear Antiques. The film will appear in November on WyomingPBS’s on air and online schedules.
