(July 14, 1917 - Oct. 12, 2016)
Alice “Louise” Stadtfeld, age 99, passed away on October 12, 2016, in Billings, MT.
She was born on July 14, 1917, in the Bitterroot Valley, Woodside, MT. She was the daughter of Fred Edward Luderman and May Talbot Luderman. Her early youth was spent in Bridger, MT, and later in Billings, MT, where she graduated from Lincoln High School. After high school, Louise worked for Western Union in Billings until moving to Greybull, WY, where her father had been transferred with the Michael Leonard Seed Company.
Although Louise’s dream was to become a home economics teacher, she was unable to afford college due to the burden of a severe medical condition. Nonetheless, she was a marvelous cook and an accomplished seamstress; she made beautiful and elaborate quilts well into her 90s.
In 1942, she took a position at the Greybull Bank where she would work intermittently until retiring in 1982. While working at the bank, Louise met Lon Stadtfeld. Louise married Lon in 1943 and made a home for Lon’s son and father. After 43 years together, Lon passed away in 1986.
Louise was always social and easily made friends. She enjoyed going to the senior center to have lunch and playing bridge with friends. She was an avid dancer and in her later years, enjoyed attending dances with her companion, Bill Fenex. Louise enjoyed traveling and spoke of fond memories from traveling to Europe and Mexico. She attended the Greybull Presbyterian Church and cooked meals weekly for the youth group. She was a member of the Eastern Star for 78 years. Louise moved to Heartland Assisted Living in Powell, WY in 2013.
Louise is survived by son, Wallace (KayRene) and daughter, Lonna Baird; grandsons Justin (Carrie) and Erin Stadtfeld and Grayson Baird, and 2 great grandchildren; step-son Warren, his two daughters Elanna (Larry) Skorupa and Michelle (Tony) Nielson, and 4 step-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Busch and sister-in-law, Ann Luderman.
