PHS sweeps Purple Out series against Lander, falls to Riverton

The Powell High School volleyball team had a busy weekend at home, beating Lander in three games on Friday before losing to Riverton in three on Saturday.

The Powell High School girl swim team dove into the pool on back-to-back days over the weekend, taking a close second at the Riverton Triangular on Friday and then third at the Sublette County Invitational in Pinedale on Saturday.

At a Saturday meet in Cody, Powell High School’s boys and girls cross country teams had five athletes crack the top 10, while the boys ran to a second place finish.

After scoring just a single goal in the first five games of the season, the Northwest College women’s soccer team found their groove last Wednesday, finding the back of the net three times against the visiting Lady Mustangs of Western Wyoming Community College.

Visits to conference opponents in Riverton and Rock Springs proved fruitful for the Northwest College volleyball team last week, as they returned home with a pair of wins against Central Wyoming College and Western Wyoming Community College.

With Homecoming festivities in full swing for Powell High School last week, it was also a homecoming of sorts for the Northwest College men’s soccer team, as the Trappers were back on their home pitch after three games on the road.

Competing at the state tennis tournament last week, the Powell High School boys played their way to fifth while the girls finished 11th. The duo of Dylan Preator and Aiden Jacobsen took second in the No. 2 doubles position — earning All-State honors — while Rhett Pimentel finished fourth in the No. 2 singles position.

Lady Panthers just 47 points behind Lander for top spot

The Lady Panther swim team competed in the Worland Invitational Saturday and swam to a second-place finish, just 47 points behind the defending state champion Lander team.
