Records fall for PMS track

JuliaKay O’Neill broke two records, including one of her own, as the Powell Middle School track team competed in Burlington Saturday.

The eighth-grader bested her own time in the 1600-meter run by more than 11 seconds and out-jumped a long jump record that was twice as old as she is. O’Neill also won the 800-meter run and was part of the first-place 4x100-meter relay team.

The Powell High School track and field team stood tall despite being stretched thin as the squad was split during three meets in two days.

Four Panthers placed first at the Wyoming Track Classic at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper on Friday.

Boys snap 4-game slide

Panthers can clinch Northwest title Thursday  

If the pattern continues, the Powell High School boys’ soccer team will finish the regular season with four straight wins.

A 5-2 win over Pinedale Saturday ended a four-game losing skid that followed the Panthers’ season-opening four-game win streak.

Girls soccer splits on road

Regular season ends with ‘toughest week’ 

A return to fundamentals propelled the Powell Panthers’ girls’ soccer team to a weekend road win, its first since April 22.

“We always have to go back to basics,” said PHS head coach Isaac Reyesmejia.

The top nine PHS track and field athletes were invited to compete in the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper Friday.

Athletes who rank in the top 10 (top eight for the 100-, 200-, 400-meter runs and all hurdles events) from Wyoming’s four classes will meet at 4 p.m. at Kelly Walsh High School.

The Powell High School soccer teams will have to wait until Friday to try to end their respective losing streaks.

The Panthers’ games scheduled for Tuesday versus Worland were postponed due to weather to Thursday, May 8. Those games will be Powell’s final Northwest Quadrant match-ups and serve as PHS’ senior night. The girls will play at 4 p.m. with the boys to follow.

A Lovell man coaching a Powell youth soccer team was relieved of his duties after punching an opposing coach during a match Saturday.

Heart Mountain United secretary Susan Bauer told the Tribune Monday that Shane Kannard was let go according to Wyoming Soccer Association bylaws.

Boys soccer chasing a victory

Northwest Quadrant can be clinched with win today  

A season-long three-game losing streak has put a damper on a PHS boys’ soccer season that started with great promise.

But all is not lost as the Panthers have a chance to clinch the Northwest Quadrant and an automatic bid to the state tournament with a win against Worland (4-8, 1-1 in the Northwest) today (Tuesday) at Panther Stadium.

Girls drop two at home

Non-conference losses to Buffalo, Jackson snap 3-game win streak  

The Powell High School girls’ soccer team lost to Buffalo and Jackson over the weekend, ending the Panthers’ three-game winning streak.

Rebecca Pratt scored in the first half and the Panther defense stood strong down the stretch as the Powell High School girls’ soccer team beat Cody 1-0 Tuesday afternoon.

The road win was its first Northwest Quadrant victory and third straight overall.
