19-year-old is Powell’s only selection

Powell Pioneers do-it-all player Cory Heny was the team’s only player to be named to either Single A All-State team.

Jason Borders won’t deny it. The Powell Pioneers’ 2015 season was a disappointment.

For a manager and team used to perennial success, the 16-29 season that ended without a state-tournament appearance can’t honestly be described otherwise.

The 26th annual Sugar Beet Classic 5K Run and Mini-Triathlon is scheduled for Aug. 22, and pre-registration is now open.

Let’s hope this is more The Godfather Part II and less Ghostbusters II.

Dear reader, I am writing this column to you posthumously.

No, I’m not dead, but I am no longer a writer for the Powell Tribune, and I’m not quite sure what the right term is for that. You see, I’ve never been much of a words guy.

Three Powell Pioneers players were named to the Wyoming American Legion Class A All-State team, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Hayden Cragoe and Cory Heny were named to the first team while Brendon Phister was named to the second team. Cragoe and Phister received the honor following their final Legion seasons while Heny may return in 2015.

Head coach Rob Hill has no idea who will comprise the starting lineup of Northwest College’s men’s soccer team, and he’s really excited about that.

“I’m going to have a really, really difficult time picking a starting team,” Hill said. “Right now that’s how good our squad is.”

PHS officials announced last week that Buck would be the interim head football coach of the Panthers. Buck will step into the void left by the late Jim Stringer, who died July 18.

American Legion team ends season winless versus champion Cody 

The Powell Pioneers beat Laramie twice and Green River once to reach the championship game and take second place at the Class A American Legion State Tournament over the weekend.
